MacroLift – Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the MacroLift mobile application (the "Application") developed by ThisIsDoubleJay (the "Service Provider"). MacroLift is offered as a Freemium service and is intended for use "AS IS". By using the Application, you agree to the terms described below.

Information We Collect

To provide and improve the Application, we may collect the following types of data:

Account & profile data

Email address and display name (via Google Sign-In or email/password)
Onboarding information: age, height, weight, fitness goal, activity level
Profile photo (optional)

Health & fitness data

Body weight history and body measurements (waist, chest, hips, arms, legs)
Workout history: exercises, sets, reps, weights, duration and volume
Nutrition logs: meals, foods, macronutrients (calories, protein, carbs, fat)
Custom exercises and custom food entries created by the user

Usage & technical data

Device type, operating system and app version
IP address and general geographic region (country level)
Session duration and features accessed within the Application
Crash reports and performance diagnostics (via Firebase Crashlytics)

Device Permissions

To provide core features, the Application requests specific device permissions. You can manage these at any time in your device settings.

Camera

Requested solely to scan barcodes on food products to retrieve nutritional information from public databases (USDA and AESAN).

🔒 No photos or video are ever stored, uploaded, or shared. The camera feed is processed entirely on-device.

Background Timers & Notifications

For the workout rest timer to function reliably when the app is minimized, we may request:

Notifications: Used to alert you when your rest period ends.
Exact Alarms & Battery Optimizations: Optional settings to prevent the operating system from killing or delaying your timer alerts while the app is in the background.
Foreground Service (type health): The Application uses an Android foreground service classified as type health under the Android 14+ API. This service keeps the rest timer running while a workout is in progress and displays a persistent notification visible to the user. It does not collect, store, or transmit any health data or device sensor data.
HIGH_SAMPLING_RATE_SENSORS permission: This permission is declared in the Application manifest as a mandatory technical requirement of the Android operating system to use the health foreground service type. The Application does not access, read, or collect data from any device sensor (accelerometer, gyroscope, etc.). The permission is declared solely for Android API compatibility.

Artificial Intelligence Features

MacroLift includes an AI-powered nutritional assistant. When you use this feature, your query text (e.g., a description of a meal) is sent to our secure backend (Google Cloud Functions) and processed to generate nutritional estimates.

AI queries are not linked to your identity beyond your session
We do not use your personal health data to train AI models
AI responses are informational only and not a substitute for medical advice

How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

To create and manage your account and deliver core app functionality
To display your nutrition, workout and progress data across sessions
To calculate calorie targets, macro splits and progress indicators
To improve application performance and fix bugs
To communicate important updates or security notices (no marketing emails)
To manage premium subscriptions via RevenueCat
To display contextual advertising to free-tier users via Google AdMob

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore & Firebase Authentication), a cloud infrastructure managed by Google LLC with servers located in the United States and the European Union. Firebase complies with ISO 27001, SOC 2/3, and GDPR requirements.

All data transmission is encrypted using TLS/HTTPS
Access to your data is protected by Firebase Security Rules — only you can read or write your own data
Sensitive fields such as subscription status are only writable by our server-side code (Cloud Functions) and cannot be manipulated by other clients
We retain your data as long as your account is active or as required by law

The Service Provider may disclose data only: (a) as required by applicable law or a government request; (b) to protect the safety and rights of users or third parties; (c) to trusted service providers acting on our behalf under confidentiality agreements.

You can delete your account and all associated data directly from within the Application (Profile → Settings → Delete Account). Alternatively, contact us at the email below.

MacroLift is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@macroliftapp.com and we will take prompt action to delete such information from our servers.
